As you are all aware, the bunker at the 17th Green has been out of play for many, many months. At long last some dry weather, coinciding with availability of our Greens Staff at this time of year, has enabled work to commence that had previously been postponed, to reshape and reduce the size of this bunker. This reshaping will provide a smaller bunker with upgraded drainage and also a General Area between the path and the reshaped bunker to enable a relief drop to be taken in the event that a ball lands on the path. Whilst this work is being undertaken the area of work, including part of the pathway, has been designated GUR and, a optional Drop Zone located in the area leading to the Green. This GUR area is not compulsory, nor is the use of the Drop Zone if you are able to take a preferred drop elsewhere, but not nearer the hole.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this work but I am sure that all of you will say – at long last!!!!
During late Winter and early Spring each year, Course Renovations are undertaken. This year they were scheduled for Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th August. Following discussions between Match and Greens Committees and others, it has been agreed that Course Renovations will be delayed by one week and now take place on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th August.
I know our Captain John Benn has written in previous weeks on the matter of repairing of, divots around the course and pitch marks on the greens. With winter now upon us and very little grass growth, we ask that you all action and not forget this important request. Please remember that, the sooner divots and pitch marks are repaired, the better chance there is of a quicker grass recovery. If you are unsure of how to repair a pitch mark by cutting or kicking in the edges before filling the area with sand or, the correct way to repair a pitch mark, please ask our Pro Shop staff for advice.
Thank you and good golfing.
