Following discussion between Match and Greens Committee personnel, members are advised course play conditions will revert to 30cms preferred lies on closely mown portions only (that is cut fairways – now known as the General Area) as from 1 July, 2019 for a one-month trial. We’ve been playing preferred lies through the green for months, a condition that impacts on DSR and handicap ratings. Playing the ball as it lies from the rough (now also known as the General Area) or any area, still requires players to repair divots and spread sand to retain overall playing surface quality.
Golf Rules Night
CGC was pleased to host a rules evening last Monday when a Golf NSW representative outlined changes to the new R & A and USGA golf rules which have applied from 1 January, 2019. A gratis copy of the 2019 rules booklet is available from the Golf Shop or the Office. Not knowing or abiding by the game’s rules is no excuse if a fellow member pulls you up for a possible infringement.
We continue to see course degradation alongside cart paths where carts – and buggies – are driven over path edges damaging grass verges and ultimately increasing unsightly bare patches around the course. PLEASE, drive carts and buggies along the centre line of cart paths not along the edges. Yes, I know some public players are also driving carts like Daniel Ricciardo. They’ll also be told to keep to defined pathways. It’s your course: care for it.
