Update from The Captain

The Royal & Ancient has announced a series of temporary measures that enable clubs to improve hygiene on the golf course whilst complying with the Rules of Golf.

The temporary measures are effective immediately and allow the Rules of Golf, and the Model Local Rules to be modified as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The following measures will become effective at Chatswood GC from Tuesday March 24:

  1. Flagstick: The recommendation is to leave the flagstick in at all times. However, this is not a requirement. If a player wishes to have the flagstick removed, the player will take responsibility for the removal and replacement of the flagstick themselves at no time are you to remove the flag on behalf of another player.
  2. Bunkers: Rakes will be removed from all bunkers. It is recommended that players smooth the bunkers with their feet and or their club. It is recognised that bunkers may not be smoothed as effectively as when rakes are used. Accordingly, preferred lies are permitted in bunkers. A player may place the ball within 30cm, no nearer the hole. A player may not alter the condition of the sand in preparation for the ball placement. It is the responsibility of the exiting player to ensure the bunker is left in a satisfactory condition for the next player.
  3. Scorecards: Each player must collect their own card from the Golf Shop. Each player is responsible to record his / her own score on their card. At the completion of each hole the player will verbally confirm the scores with their partner and at the end of the round and upon confirmation, the player will place their partners initial the space on the scorecard which is designed for the marker’s signature. This practice will ensure that only the player is handling his or her own card. Cards will then be returned to the Golf Shop where staff will enter the results.

Golf Carts will be limited to 1 cart per person at all times (No Exceptions).

Golfers will need to refrain from shaking hands and any physical contact with other players.

Social distancing measures must be maintained at all times including pre and post golf rounds.

Disciplinary action may be taken against Members and Guests who fail to comply with the new rules or guidelines implemented on social distancing, the Club does not want to see golf play cancelled and as such everyone needs to ensure they follow the rules and stay safe.

** Honour Board and Trophy Events will continue at this time however this may change depending on circumstances.
